Current Tunage: Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster – Is That A Threat Or A Promise?
It’s about freakin’ time I got into Maylene.

Today’s thought/words of the day: I’m a Shell of a Shipwreck; a Riptide, if you will.

Where once they were promising, they now deliver on that promise in spades. “The Silver Cord” is my choice for record of the summer… though my Deepspace5 & Mars ILL order ain’t in yet.

I haven’t much to say. In five days I’ll be a husband and that’s pretty much the most exciting thing in the universe right now. I’m not nervous, just happy and stoked to almost be done with all this planning… but much more so, I’m happy and stoked to be married soon – to Stephanie nonetheless! What a blessing and how much more than all I could have asked for or imagined up.

In other news, I’ve writ my first new poem in ages. You can read it on my poetry blog… which is most easily found through the link on the right.

Read, enjoy, comment, dominate. Love.

Beautiful harmonies.

Two weeks remain. Fourteen days.

Bury me, six feet in water
subsistence submerged; suspension.
Twin factions collide but I
found a release: the tension.

Old favourites from old thrice.

Hey.

I’m well as well can be. If a bit sore, tired, and full of thoughts. I’ve been learning a lot lately, mostly about what’s yet-to-come and about what lies deep within. Challenging days behind, challenging days ahead.

Random, point-form thoughts of late:
- The last thing I deserve is grace, and yet it is grace that permeates my life.
- I’ve been contemplating the idea of a career in law.
- This coming school year will be my most academically demanding to date.
- Orange Julius makes me salivate.
- I’ve lived in my room for ~12 years straight. It’s strange to be leaving soon.
- Wedding showers are fun.
- I am a huge fan of Magical Todd and Nomeus. They are brothers and fellowsoldiers.

- I haven’t seen her in more than 24 hours and I think I’m losing my mind. The previous sentence would have made me gag severely not so long ago.

Some news:

Taking a bit of a sabbatical from these computer machines, more or less for most of what remains of the summer.

In any case, I do hope to update from time to time when I do chance upon an opportunity – though my honest expectation is that such times will be scarce.

If you need to get in touch, call or gmail me.

(And if you haven’t RSVP’ed yet, do it quick before I start my campaign!)

“…and we washed our weapons in the sea” is definitely my favourite disc of things put together by any Shelby Cinca related work.

I’m trying hard to keep up with myself.

Not that I’ve been “busy”, more just changing gears.

I have one exam left now and then it’s work, work, work… wedding. Something like that. I always have difficulty switching into and out of “school mode” – it almost feels unnatural not to have anything scholastic to procrastinate over.

That being said, there’s lots to be done. I have a wedding website to polish to a glistening, moist shine which might reflect glories untold. The hard part, as always, is really getting started. Beyond that, there’s invitations to finish up and get out (and with them a guest list to finalize), a few meetings to solidify very important particulars (ie. food, photos, etc), and one more session of counselling in May. This final item brings with it a return to the books, as we’ve been too swamped to really dig into them for the better part of two months – me with finishing up school (papers galore) and Steph with being sick. We’ll get caught up, though. We “always” do.

It’s hard to talk about “always” when the timespan from which you make that joyous and farsighted proclamation amounts to less than a year…

Anywho, I’ve been nursing a few healthy obsessions lately. I call them “healthy” because they provoke me (not unlike a Gadfly) to movement and stability. The first is an obsession with Thrice’s new pair of EP’s – Air & Earth. The second is an obsession with Mark Driscoll’s series on the book of Ruth. The final is an obsession with driving to Pickerjax – a simple, one hour trip which always brings a sunshiney feast-for-the-heart.

I’ve also been listening compulsively to Frodus for the last couple days.

…let me tell you about God’s grace

A melancholy note on which to end this school year’s writing. Perhaps fitting? Regardless, it’s time to party…

I was reading Christianity Today’s review of Tim Keller’s “The Reason for God” this morning, after FINISHING MY FINAL PAPER and, though I haven’t read the book yet, I have been feeling thankful for writers like Keller. I’ve enjoyed his stuff before, but I’m thankful that the best-selling wave of New Athiesm that washes over our bookstores and cultural subconscious has not gone unanswered. I’m thankful that it has been answered strongly, and well.

Having had some very telling, very good, very challenging conversations with friends who really don’t believe in Jesus at all this week, I find myself looking forward to… well… now. I’m looking forward to using the next few months, among much wedding planning and working, to hone some serious weaknesses in my ability and preparation to “give a defense to anyone who asks me for a reason for the hope that is in me”.

And on that note:

FREEDOM!!!
